A Note on Handmade Variations
The piece shown is one of the currently available lidded jars. Because each jar is hand-thrown and hand-carved individually, yours will be unique with its own subtle variations in glaze tone and carved detail that make it entirely one of a kind. Available to pack as a gift just add your message at checkout and I'll include a handwritten gift note.

There are objects you put away and objects you leave out. This one tends to stay out.

Hand-thrown and hand-carved in my studio in Oranmore, Co. Galway, this version of the Irish Cottage Lidded Jar carries one addition: calla lilies, carved into the body and picked out in underglaze, growing up beside the cottage walls as they do across the west of Ireland in gardens, along laneways, in the rough ground beside gates. They're not ornamental here. They belong to the place.

The jar itself sits at the centre of the Irish Cottage range between the Sugar Bowl and the larger Lidded Jar, and equally at home beside either. The walls are built up in porcelain slip to catch the texture of lime-washed stone. The carved windows face out. The door is red as cottage doors along the western seaboard often were, painted that colour in an old tradition of threshold protection, marking the line between the known world and what wandered beyond it. Practical faith, carried quietly into clay.

Above the carved walls, the upper body and lid are glazed in dark metallic charcoal and bronze the colour of old thatch gone silver in the rain. Inside, a glossy green with warm brown speckles: the fields beyond the half-door, caught in glaze. The lid closes clean.

Every piece is individually hand-carved. The lilies on your jar will grow in their own way.

Glaze Dark metallic charcoal and bronze on the upper body and lid decorative, never in contact with food. Interior glazed in glossy green with warm brown speckles, food safe and lead-free throughout.
