Where Throwing Technique Becomes Exploration
The Ocean Collection is where my love of the Atlantic meets my obsession with what clay can do. These were among my first designs, and they pushed me to explore the double-wall technique in every direction throwing pieces upside down, splitting the clay to pull up two walls from a single base, or throwing two separate forms and joining them together, the way I build my school of fish vases.
The result is some of my most technically demanding work. The carving alone is extraordinarily time-consuming the detail has to earn its place.
The donut vases took the double-wall idea somewhere unexpected, a form that is as much sculpture as vessel.
This collection is still where I push hardest.
