My Story

I am Anne, the creator behind the unique ceramic works of "Ceramics by Anne".

I have been drawn to creativity my entire life. From a young age, I enjoyed drawing, painting, and working with clay. Though I initially pursued another career path, I returned to clay nine years ago. Now, I am a full-time ceramic artist, having left my previous career in the IT industry behind to focus entirely on my passion for creating beautiful work out of clay.

I moved to Ireland more than twenty years ago, and it has profoundly influenced my artistic vision.

My work is primarily inspired by the nature, culture, and landscape of Ireland - particularly the west coast, where my home is now. All my pieces are hand-thrown on the wheel. I love creating complex pieces that incorporate deep thought and intention. My ideas emerge naturally from learning new techniques combined with an urge to create something both beautiful and interesting.

I particularly enjoy throwing double-walled pieced where I carve the outside wall and cut negative spaces, as seen in my Celtic knot vases. I am fascinated by creating pieces where viewers can peek through these negative spaces to discover more intricate details within.

Many of my pieces are unique and slow in the making. I tend to work in a more figurative style with the goal of bringing my ceramic pieces to life, capturing the essence of Ireland's natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.

My Artistic Vision

My work is evolving toward more decorative expressions, though functionality remains an element in many pieces. Each creation tells a story, reflecting my perspective as someone who came to the Green Isle from elsewhere and has called it home for over two decades.

Living in Ireland has profoundly shaped me and my artistic vision. My inspiration comes not only from the country's breathtaking landscapes but also from my deepening understanding of the Irish way of life—the inherent kindness, the joy in conviviality, the relaxed "it's grand, will do" philosophy, and the peace found in sharing a cup of tea with good company.

I also draw from Ireland's complex history, particularly the profound suffering during the Famine. The abandoned cottages that remain as skeletal reminders across the countryside speak to both Irish resilience and rich cultural heritage.

It is an honor to be part of this tradition and to share Ireland's beauty with the world through my ceramic art.
