Because each jar is hand-thrown and hand-carved individually, yours will be unique with its own subtle variations in glaze tone and carved detail that make it entirely one of a kind. Some pieces earn their place quietly. Not through display, but through use the jar that gets reached for without thinking, the lid that fits just right, the thing that simply belongs where it sits.
Hand-thrown and hand-carved in my studio in Oranmore, Co. Galway, the Irish Cottage Lidded Jar sits at the centre of the Irish Cottage range larger than the Sugar Bowl, smaller than the statement piece, and comfortable beside either. The body is rounded and generous, its walls built up in porcelain slip to hold the texture of old lime-washed stone. Carved windows sit either side of the door. The door is red.
That red matters. Along the western seaboard, cottage doors were painted red as a form of quiet protection a threshold colour, chosen to mark the boundary between the domestic and whatever lay beyond it. Not superstition exactly. Practical faith. It's fired into the clay here, the same as it was daubed onto timber for generations before.
The upper body and lid are glazed in dark metallic charcoal and bronze the particular grey-silver of thatch after a week of Atlantic rain. The interior is glossy green with warm brown speckles, the shade of the fields glimpsed through a half-door. The lid closes cleanly.
What you keep inside is entirely your own concern. The jar will hold it without complaint.
Every piece is individually carved. The cottage that arrives with you will be its own.
Glaze Dark metallic charcoal and bronze on the upper body and lid — decorative, never in contact with food. Interior glazed in glossy green with warm brown speckles, food safe and lead-free throughout.

How It's Made Hand-thrown on the potter's wheel, hand-carved, and high-fired at 1200°C in my Oranmore studio. Porcelain slip applied for the whitewashed walls; carved door and windows painted with red underglaze.
Care The interior green glaze is fully dishwasher safe. To protect the metallic finish on the exterior and lid, hand washing is recommended for long-term care.
